Recently, at my two year old birthday party, she received 4 Disney princess fair tale books. As I read them to her one night, I realized that this is exactly where "we" get those crazy wedding ideas. We have been feed the "princesses happily ever after" stuff from a very young age, as young as two years of age. In addition we forget to tell our little girls that this is just a fairy tale (not real).

I love for my girls to have an imagination and read fair tales, but I feel strongly that reality is also important. The difference should be explained to a child.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but what happen to showing young girls that its OK to be strong, open and be in charge of ones destiny? Why do we need to play the victim like Cinderella or give something us like Ariel for love?. Why so much emphasis on beauty?.

I love weddings and I love making brides look beautiful, but beauty comes from within and radiate out. We need to teach and emphasis that more. Just cause its your wedding does not mean you can  1) treat people badly, 2) throw a tantrum and/or 3) assume we ( wedding industry folks) are out to get you.

We want you to have a beautiful wedding, enjoy your day. We also want you to remember that is not about the day, but about you and your husband starting a new life together!

Happy Wedding Season to all!

When are you certain you've found the one?

Finding a wedding gown is much like finding a husband. The good one are always hard to find, it takes some time to find him/ it, and it's never perfect!

When shopping for a wedding gown it's always right in front of you, but most of us refuse to believe its that easy so we shop some more and then some more until we come to the realization it's been in front of us this whole time! Much like a husband! We go out to all the club, all those parties when all along he was right there, just waiting for us!

So does that mean that by human nature we are bound to try on wedding gowns/ men until we bang our heads into the wall from frustration? Are you the type of women that believe the one will sweep you of your feet?

Is that why divorce rate is through the roof, because we really don't know what we want so we go through life try on men/ gowns and hope for the best!

When we should be clear of what we want and have clear expectations so that when they are met we know this is right for us!

If only it was that easy... Or is it?

Bridal Fashion Week Spring 2013

Whats going on in the world of bridal fashion, trends, looks, colors.....
Well I hate to break it to you ladies, there is no FASHION in bridal. ! Why no fashion in bridal you say.... We learned from our mistakes, all you have to do is look at the disastrous 80's and that's your answer right there. We have learned that fashion doesn't belong in bridal as these are pictures that are usually displayed on family Walls forever, and no one what to see that horrible puffy sleeve that made us look like creme puffs!

So whats new? Well here is a run down of the looks I saw at Spring 2013 bridal market in NY.

The ever whimsical and romantic  Alvina Valenta has not let us done. She continues to design for that young bride with all her hopes and dreams of that perfect wedding. If I would to say I see a trend her the designs would be that she incorporated sleeves in a lot of her gown. The sleeves are done in a very lite and airy kind of way.

A second trend I saw was the return of the peplum. This looks beautiful on 6 foot tall size 2 models, but on the average women not so much.

Tulle continues to hit the runway full force. Its light and nothing says bride like tulle.

Christos also followed the trend this season, with the light fabric choices and romantic feel to her gowns. Lace was a big hit this season as well. All three gowns that you see her by Christos incorporated lace.

Ines di Santo 2013

2013 Ines di santo

We can always count on Ines Di Santo to give us her very best. Her ballgown are perfect for that bride looking to host a 300 + wedding. She did incorporate in her designs the lighter and softer fabrics, but she continues to give us her sexy Latin flare!

We come to Jenny Packham, her old Hollywood glamour is always present in her designs, but this time she used much more lace in her designs and less of the heavy beading.
This is a version of her soft ruffles, and even thou its stunning, the average women could not wear it.
This high neck halter I have not seem in a long time. Its beautiful and I hope will do well. Jenny Packham is not for everyone and this is a gown I will bring into my shop and wait for that perfect tall bride to wear it.

Ulla Maija stayed strong and stood her ground. She continued to use the heavy silk satin with her every identifiable drapes.
Romona Keveza is beautiful and ethereal. Soft tulles and organza was a common trend in her designs. Rhinestone Belts were seen often with her gowns this season. Telling me we will continue with the belt trend.

 Romona's peplum
Trumpet cut

To sum it up, this spring 2013 we will see tulle, organza, lace, sleeves, and trumpet cuts with a beaded belt here and there. All of which we have seen here and there over the years. Which brings me back to my point ladies, "there is no fashion in bridal" !

Designers

As april bridal market approaches, I was think about designer and what makes them more popular then others. Is it design, fabric, quality, manufacturing? The answer marketing! Why you ask... Vera Wang is an example of someone who is popular solely based on her marketing efforts! Think about it, she does zero of her designs, her fabric very from pol to silk, and they are all manufactured in China! So why does she remain in high demand with brides?!?
Tell me why you find Vera Wang so impressive? I find her to be a very savvy business women.
If you have a designer you love, share that with us too, and why?!?!

Who is the Silicon Valley Bride?

As we gear up of yet another trunk show I wonder who is our bride here in silicon valley?!?
What do we know about silicon valley? High tech, biotech, start up, semiconductor, are a few industries that make it hard to say as most of those industries are men driven. In fact this area is unique in that women are out numbered by men! http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/18/technology/18women.html?pagewanted=all

So, who is this Silicon Valley women, well we know she's in her late 20's early 40's, she's educated, and has very little time to plan a wedding!

What does that mean to me, Gabrielle's Bridal?

Is there more to this women then we can see? What do you know about the silicon valley bride? Share with us your thoughts.

Christos by Amsale NY

Since we have a few appoitments left for our faboulous trunk show this weekend, I thought I would will you in on Amsale the designer of the Christos Collection. Amsale Aberra's career as a couture bridal and eveningwear designer happened by necessity. While planning her 1985 nuptials to film executive Neil Brown, Amsale scoured the stores to find a simple, refined wedding dress. She found little in the way of clean, sophisticated gowns, and discovered an untapped niche in the bridal market—elegant and understated dresses. The CHRISTOS collection, now under the creative direction of Amsale, owner and creative director of AMSALE, has long been established as the couture collection for the classic, romantic bride. CHRISTOS was established by Cyprus-born designer Christos Yiannakou. After heading his collection for over 20 years, he retired in 2005, leaving Amsale at the helm of the CHRISTOS collection. As creative director, Amsale has upheld CHRISTOS legacy for tradition while infusing a touch of her own modern sensibility into the collection. Amsale sees CHRISTOS as a natural extension of her own collection, as both are rooted in classic timelessness. A romantic at heart, she reveres CHRISTOS as a venue for her more traditional side. In opposition to the modern aesthetic which defines the AMSALE collection, CHRISTOS evokes a feeling of fairy-tale, femininity, and romance. Amsale's CHRISTOS gowns have long stood out for their impeccable heirloom quality. Her use of the finest silks, French laces and silk organza are staples of the collection. CHRISTOS designs are especially known for their use of Alençon lace, or point d'Alençon, a type of needle lace created in a French town by the same name. Alençon, a small town in Normandy, began manufacturing lace in the sixteenth century. This same lace is used today to create CHRISTOS classic romantic designs. Hollywood has embraced Amsale's CHRISTOS collection, featuring CHRISTOS gowns in the Katherine Heigl film 27 Dresses, and the August 2009 film The Accidental Husband, starring Uma Thurman. CHRISTOS also traveled down the wide-screen aisle in Kate Hudson's film My Best Friend's Girl, which released nationwide in September 2008. Now that you know all about Amsale and her vision, make your appointment today.
